Mia Raben

Biography

Mia Raben – born and raised in a German-Polish family in Hamburg, studied Political Science and European Law at the University of Amsterdam After attending journalism school in Berlin, she worked as a freelance correspondent in Warsaw and contributed to various German-language media outlets, including Spiegel Online, taz, FAZ, and RBB.

Back in Hamburg, she initially worked as an editor at the PR agency fischerAppelt**, then joined Gruner + Jahr as a freelance editor for the stern magazine’s “nido” section. At the same time, she spent several years working on her literary debut. As a freelance collaborator with the Munich-based agency nansen&piccard, Mia regularly executes editorial projects.

In 2021, she earned her Master’s degree from the German Literature Institute Leipzig. Her debut novel, “Unter Dojczen”, which tells the story of a Polish caregiver in Hamburg, was published in July 2024 by Kjona Verlag in Munich.

She lives in Hamburg with her family and advises Barka on public relations and German-Polish relations. Mia is fluent in Polish.
