Ewa Sadowska

Biography

Ewa Sadowska is the Managing Director of Barka e.V., Barka UK, and Barka for Mutual Help Ireland. She also serves on the board of the Barka Foundation for Mutual Assistance in Poland and Stichting Barka in the Netherlands.

Ewa coordinates the Barka network for the integration of European migrants, overseeing projects in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada. She lives in London, United Kingdom.

She holds a Master’s degree in Ethnolinguistics from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, and a postgraduate degree in Social Enterprise Management from the University of Warsaw.

Ewa grew up in Barka’s therapeutic residential communities for homeless people and former prisoners, founded in 1989 by her parents, Barbara and Tomasz Sadowski.

Her work continues her parents’ legacy: advocating for equal opportunities for homeless individuals and vulnerable migrants, including former prisoners, ethnic minorities, and people with mental or physical disabilities. She has contributed to numerous projects combating social inequality and the stigmatization of former offenders and migrants, promoting their human rights—such as the right to work, security, education, and the freedom to practice religion and sexual orientation.

Ewa has worked with the Population and Community Development Association in Bangkok, Thailand, supporting access to health education for people with HIV/AIDS and vulnerable populations in rural areas.

She has also been involved in several EU-funded projects, including SIREN and Snapshots from the Borders, in partnership with the BTIN – Border Towns and Islands Network, focusing on the social integration of refugees arriving in Europe via Lampedusa.

Ewa completed a traineeship at the Grameen Bank in Dhaka, Bangladesh, concentrating on microfinance and capacity-building advisory work—innovative approaches to tackling global poverty developed under Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Since 2022, she has been a member of the Humanitarians Together initiative, launched by Lord Roberts of Llandudno in the UK House of Lords, advocating for the rights of refugees in the United Kingdom. One of the most recent initiatives was the Protecting Refugees Manifesto.

In 2008, Ewa was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
