From 17 to 20 September, our Berlin team – represented by Julie (Operations Manager) and Konrad (Streetworker) – visited our colleagues in the Netherlands. It was an inspiring journey highlighting how much we can learn from one another.
Barka is active in numerous Dutch cities. What began over a decade ago in Utrecht has grown into a network that provides sustainable support to homeless EU citizens. One particularly impressive initiative was the “Training Flat” project in Utrecht: a transitional housing programme focused on intensive job training and developing social skills. The result? Most participants secure employment and independent housing within three months. This concept serves as an inspiration for a similar project we hope to implement in Berlin.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to discuss the next steps with Jan Braat, Social Policy Advisor for the City of Utrecht, as well as with other partner organisations. These discussions were enriching and provided us with fresh perspectives for our work in Berlin.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated colleagues in Rotterdam, Utrecht, Venlo, and The Hague, who work tirelessly every day to help people in challenging situations. Your commitment inspires us tremendously!
