On 11 September, Barka participated in events marking the Day of Homeless People. A highlight was the opening of the exhibition “Voices of the Street – Perspectives of Homeless People” by photographer Deborah Ruppert at the Willy-Brandt-Haus.
The exhibition gave a platform to individuals who are often invisible, providing poignant insights into their lived realities. As part of the event, a panel discussion featured prominent figures, including Senator for Labour, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity, and Anti-Discrimination, Ms. Kiziltepe. The discussion conveyed a clear message: housing is a human right – a goal that demands greater commitment from all of us.
In conversations following the panel, we ensured that the issue of homeless EU citizens was not overlooked. Ms. Kiziltepe expressed strong interest in Barka’s work and welcomed the resumption of our activities in Berlin.
We look forward to working alongside the Berlin government and other stakeholders to realise the right to housing for all people, regardless of their background.
